Hello friends,

my name is Jack Venables and I am a freelance photographer. I have been photographing as a hobby for nearly ten years now, and have recently decided to take my methods to the next level: Professional Portraiture.

I am a graduate at the Queensland University of Technology, with a degree in Bachelor of Creative Industries. Within this course I majored in Music and Writing, but also delved into Photography, in which I recieved High Distinctions and graduated with Honours.

While studying the Creative Industries, I came to discover that the world of photography has become saturated with cheese. Glamour photography and studio portraiture has become the norm, which is unfortunate for those of us who love real portraits. 

I am the antithesis to glamour photography. I believe that subjects are unique and interesting in their own right, and should be treated as such.

I believe portraits should  serve one of two purposes:

1) Reveal something about the character of the subject. They should reflect the soul, charisma and attiude of the subject, without forced emotions or posed situations.

2) Serve as pieces of art that can be appreciated by anyone who views them. Creative portraits put the subject into an ethereal world; a world that is limitless in context and stretches as far as the subject's or photographer's imagination. These portraits are loved by any viewer, not just relatives of the subject.

In any photo shoot I undertake, I aim to achieve both these fundamentals. I take candid portraits that go beyond their 'cheesy' counterparts, and I set up creative shots that stand out from the norm.
